Tips & Tricks
Cell phone recycling is easy – all you have to do is ask! Click on one of the topics below to learn more about it.
Local Cell Phone Stores
Step One: Visit local cell phone stores and ask the store managers if they would be willing to start collecting cell phones.
Look for stores that offer more than one service (Verizon, Cingular, etc.) as they are often locally owned and do not have cell phone collection programs.
Step Two: Print out a color poster for their window or countertop, print color flyers for store employees, and let the manager know that any box can be used to store the phones.
Step Three: Make a plan to visit the store again every couple weeks.
This will help you determine what additional tools they may need and pick-up phones they have collected.
Step Four: Ship 'em in!
When you've got at least 50 phones, print out a pre-paid FedEx shipping label and send in the phones.
Churches or Religious Organizations
Step One: Ask your pastor or church leader if you can put out a cell phone collection box.
Put a box and poster in a high-traffic area, such as the sanctuary entrance.
Step Two: Ask for help publicizing your collection.
Put a notice in the church newsletter, and have the pastor mention the collection as an announcement during service.
Step Three: Ship 'em in!
When you've got at least 50 phones, print out a pre-paid FedEx shipping label and send in the phones.
TIP: It takes several weeks for people to remember to bring in their phone, so leave the collection box out in plain view.
General Collections
Step One: Find a place where people go several times a week and ask the owners or managers if you can put out a collection box.
Your local coffee shop, school or a large local office are all good places to start.
Step Two: Publicize your collection by putting the collection box and poster in a high-traffic area.
Ask for additional help publicizing your collection, such as sending out an e-mail to employees or customers.
Step Three: Ship 'em in!
When you've got at least 50 phones, print out a pre-paid FedEx shipping label and send in the phones.
TIP: It takes several weeks for people to remember to bring in their phone, so leave the collection box out in plain view.
