Sarah Kell

Sarah is a Colorado native who grew up in Denver attending Cherry Creek High School. During high school, she did sustainable volunteer work in various parts of Peru. She is now a junior at The University of Colorado at Boulder and is studying Spanish and Anthropology. She has volunteered for numerous outdoor groups during her college career, as well as recycling and conservation groups. After studying abroad in Madrid, Spain, she has gained an even greater love for other cultures and meeting new people. As an information communication specialist for Cellular Recycler, she is using her love of recycling and technology and taking her new work education to Boulder Colorado’s Spanish speaking community.
What location in time has most inspired you?
Peru is the location that has most inspired me. I met many life-changing people and traveled to incredible places while volunteering there.
What do you sing in the shower, if you do sing?
Anything bluegrass.
Has a book ever changed your life? Which one and why if the answer is yes.
Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey. I love backpacking in the canyons of Utah, and Abbey writes beautifully about these areas.
Do you Cry at movies? If so which movie made you cry?
Yes, of course! Many movies have made me cry, but Marley and Me comes to mind specifically.
What is your favorite outdoor activity and why?
Backpacking. I love going on trips for days or weeks at a time carrying everything I need on my back.
Are you an environmentalist or a capitalist?
Environmentalist.
When was the first time you had a beer?
My freshman year of high school.
Cian F. Davis

I was born in 1976 in Bantry, Co Cork Ireland. My family immigrated to Colorado in 1980, and my father got a job at Ball Aerospace division which he held until his retirement in 2007. My mother was a French and Spanish teacher at several local schools in the Boulder area. Upon completion at Boulder High School, I traveled Europe for 3 months before starting school at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. I received a B.A. in Anthropology in 1999.
During my years in college in Durango I embarked on learning glass-blowing for fun and as a side business. The business was busy enough for me that it became my career after college. I operated my own glass business for 10 years in several locations. I lived a year in Portland Ore, and a year in Boone, NC before returning to Colorado. In 2007 I married my wife, Erin and in 2008 we had our first child, Evelyn. In 2009 I joined Cellular Recycler and helped implement our cellular repair division.
What location in time has most inspired you?
Our current time in history is the most fascinating to me. Our world is changing more and faster than any time in human history. Our business is a reflection of some of these changes. Communication in our world has reached lightning speed. We have access to vast news and information from all over the world and we can access it from any part of the world.
What do you sing in the shower, if you do sing?
Sure, usually the songs are childrens tunes; our daughter Evelyn is 2
Has a book ever changed your life? Which one and why if the answer is yes.
I can’t say but Who Will Feed China by Lester Brown is a real eye-opener of a book. In the book, the author describes future situations based on current consumption and growth trends in China.
Do you Cry at movies? If so which movie made you cry?
I have, and probably will again. Didn’t we all cry when we saw Bambi?
What is your favorite outdoor activity and why?
I love snowboarding for many reasons; the thrill, the speed, the cold clean air. But nowadays I just love going out hiking with my wife and my daughter.
Are you an environmentalist or a capitalist?
I would say both. I believe in these times, environmentalism and capitalism need to merge. We as humans need to find ways to make our lives as comfortable and profitable in sustainable ways. We are at a time where technology and environmental business are growing and gaining more ground with things such as electric cars, solar energy and wind power.
When was the first time you had a beer?
Hard to say, it’s been a while, but when I was a small child in Ireland the foam-head of a Murphy’s stout was a favorite treat.
